Wrong Furniture Delivered: What Should You Ask the Retailer to Do?
Photograph the item, packaging, labels, and order page before assembly or disposal. Ask for a remedy that solves both the product mismatch and the logistics: correct-item delivery, pickup of the wrong item, and confirmation of whether charges or assembly costs will be corrected.
When the case is stronger
- Model, color, configuration, or dimensions clearly differ from the order confirmation.
- Photos were taken promptly before material use or assembly.
- The retailer controlled delivery and has a practical pickup or replacement path.
When the case is weaker
- The order confirmation matches what arrived.
- The difference is within a clearly disclosed variation.
- The item was altered, assembled, discarded, or damaged after delivery without prior documentation.
High-value evidence
- Order confirmation and product listing
- Delivery receipt
- Labels, model numbers, and package markings
- Wide and close-up photos before assembly
- Dimensions and messages reporting the mismatch
The business’s strongest plausible position
The retailer may say the correct SKU was delivered, the difference is a disclosed variation, or post-delivery use changed available remedies.
Realistic remedies
- Deliver the correct item and retrieve the wrong one
- Provide an agreed partial credit only if the customer wants to keep it
- Refund when replacement is unavailable and the applicable terms support return
